Born in a small ancestral village

SMCIS Late Seth Shri Malook Chand Agarwal was born on the full moon day of the month of Kartik in his ancestral village, Kaurah, known also as Rustampur, in the Aligarh district. He completed his Intermediate education at Aligarh, a modest academic start by today’s standards, but one that set him on a path of taking on family responsibility early while quietly developing an interest in business that would define the rest of his life.

Starting small with cotton ginning

In 1957, he started a cotton ginning business with just a few small cotton-cleaning machines, a modest beginning by any measure. SMCIS What followed was not a fast rise but a steady one, built through hard work, dedication, and clear vision over years rather than a single breakthrough moment. That steady, patient pattern of growth turns out to be a thread that runs through the rest of his story too.

Building beyond a single venture

The cotton ginning business grew into cotton ginning and pressing mills established under the name Malook Chand and Sons Group, with operations set up in Sirsa in Haryana and Malout in Punjab, extending well beyond his home region in Aligarh. During this same period, he also set up three mustard oil mills in Aligarh, one after another, alongside chemical mills, thread manufacturing units, and several other business ventures, each one becoming its own mark of the success he built through consistent effort.

A life defined by more than commercial success

What distinguishes his story from a simple business success narrative is that he worked selflessly for the welfare of society throughout his life, dedicating his time, effort, and resources to that cause with the same seriousness he brought to his businesses. SMCIS—that combination, genuine entrepreneurial success paired with real commitment to community welfare, is the specific inheritance the school now carries forward.

Why this history matters to a school today

SMCIS Seth Malook Chand International School moves forward today with his blessings and inspiration, built on the hope that children of Aligarh city and the nearby rural areas would receive a quality and nurturing education because of the foundation his life’s work made possible. Understanding this history is not a formality. It explains why the school describes itself the way it does, rooted in the region, built on decades of patient effort, and oriented toward genuine community benefit rather than a purely commercial education venture.
